Got your best MLB bets for September 15th ready to go to prepare yourself for the weekend? Need a little extra money in your pocket before Saturday’s college football action and Sunday’s NFL week 2?
We have three MLB best bets that, where stand alone plays or parlays, will hopefully cash and help finance your future weekend plans.
Without further delay – let’s get to work and deliver some winners for the people…
New York Yankees (-165) at Pittsburgh Pirates (+140) – 6:35 PM EST
The Yankees are fighting to avoid a last-place finish in the AL East standings, but that doesn’t match the story of their starting pitcher, Gerrit Cole, who is a serious contender for AL Cy Young.
13-4, 2.79 ERA with a .214 OBA, Cole’s season stats have been impressive and that’s without mentioning the 204 strikeouts he’s racked up. And, if the season-long stats aren’t dazzling enough, Cole has put together two brilliant performances in his last two starts, allowing just one run over 13 innings pitched in September.
Pirates starter Johan Oviedo has a 7.36 ERA so far in September. This is one of those pitching matchups that isn’t a fair fight.
The only risk to a Yankees moneyline play is the New York offense, which remains the greatest underachiever of the 2023 MLB season in our opinion. However, with Cole taking the hill, we’ll believe that the Bronx Bombers can push across enough runs to earn the W for the first of our best MLB bets for September 15th.
Best MLB Bets for September 15th: Yankees ML (-165)
Cincinnati Reds (-105) at New York Mets (-115) – 7:10 PM EST
The Reds are hanging onto their spot in the NL Wild Card by their fingernails. They need a win in Queens!
The Mets are out of contention and have their sights set on 2024. Urgency is on the side of Cincinnati. Plus, as an away underdog on the run line, the Reds are 43-21 – a 67.2 cover percentage (3rd best in the National League).
The Reds put Hunter Greene on the hill. He’s coming off his best outing of the season, allowing just one run over six innings while striking out nine hitters. He’s been better on the road this season with a 3.57 ERA away from Cincy as opposed to 5.94 at home, and he allowed just two runs in a previous start against the Mets this year.
David Peterson, the Mets starter, allowed four runs on seven hits over 3.1 innings in his previous start against Cincinnati. The southpaw also has a 6.30 ERA through two starts in the month of September.
Now Peterson has been better at home and in night games, reason to maybe be a little cautious about a moneyline bet. But, the Reds are a road underdog if you look in the right places. That’s a best bet worth taking – Reds to cover on the run line as the second of our best MLB bets for September 15th.
Best MLB Bets for September 15th: Cincinnati +1.5 (-210)
Houston Astros (-195) at Kansas City Royals (+165) – 8:10 PM EST
Is this the last season for Zack Greinke? Despite the fact that he’s moving up the all-time lists, the 39-year-old righty is 1-15 with a 5.47 ERA. In September, his ERA is currently 8.59! It might be for Greinke to hang it up. Unfortunately, that point might be rudely brought home during Friday’s game against the Houston Astros.
Houston has some very hot hitters including Jose Altuve who already has a .357 lifetime batting average against Greinke and Alex Bregman who has a .444 average against Greinke.
It’s going to be bad. I’m talking beat down. Could Greinke hold his own for a few innings? Maybe, but we aren’t thinking that’s likely. We aren’t usually so confident, but this matchup screams obvious bet.
That might be a trap, since the sportsbooks build casinos on assumptions that the obvious will occur. However, we don’t need to be greedy to benefit from this attractive betting opportunity. If you want to take the Astros on the run line, we certainly would discourage you. But, since we aren’t tempting fate and building a nice parlay of best bets for all of you, we will play it slightly conservative and simply take Houston to win.
Zack Greinke might be a hall of famer someday, but on Friday he’s simply going to help us cash one of our best MLB bets for September 15th by going against him.
