Arizona Diamondbacks (-120) at New York Yankees (+100) – 1:05 PM EST
On Sunday, it finally happened – the New York Yankees were eliminated from playoff contention. 2023 was an utter failure and the Bronx will be buzzing in rumors about the future of Aaron Boone for the next few days, weeks, and months until his future is made known.
But what we care about is how this will impact the Yankees from a betting standpoint. Well, the Yanks are 8-12 as a home underdog (5th worst in the American League). Plus the Yankees are a surprising 22-23 against the NL this year.
The Diamondbacks are 18-19 against the American League (but our expectations for New York were certainly higher than Arizona this year. The D’Backs are 16-14 as an away favorite and they will be sending the better pitcher to the mound.
Merrill Kelly is worse on the road and in day games, but he’s been pitching well in September and is on the verge of capping a pretty strong year.
Yankees starter Clarke Schmidt might have a lower ERA at home, but he’s got a losing record in the Bronx this year and his month of September has seen him struggle mightily. The starting pitcher matchup definitely favors Arizona.
Between the difference in end-of-season motivation and who is manning the mound on Monday, we like the Diamondbacks to claim a win to start the week.

Texas Rangers (-185) at Los Angeles Angels (+155) – 9:38 PM EST
Rangers starting pitcher Jon Gray has been brutal of late, with a 8.56 ERA this month and 4 runs allowed in his last start, which lasted only 2.1 innings.
So why are we believing in him and the Rangers today? First, Gray has been better on the road this year than at home, with a better record, lower ERA, lower OBA, and fewer home runs allowed. Gray has been the best version of himself when away from Texas. Now, Monday provides a matchup against a team he dominated early this year.
Gray allowed just 1 run in a 7-inning performance earlier this season against the Halos and this start will obviously be Ohtani-less unlike the last one.
Angels starter is 2-6 at home this year with a 4.66 ERA and .275 OBA. He’s winless in September, 0-3, and his ERA is 5.79 this month. If that wasn’t enough he allowed 5 runs in 2.2 innings against the Rangers this year – his worst outing of the season.
Angels are limping to the finish line while the Rangers have playoff hopes. Let’s go with the team that has something to play for besides pride – Rangers to win.

Houston Astros (+105) at Seattle Mariners (-125) – 9:40 PM EST
Astros-Mariners is really the start of the playoffs in many ways as these two teams battle for the one of the remaining playoff spots.
The Mariners are 29-16 in division games straight up, the 4th best winning percentage in baseball. The Astros aren’t far behind at 30-19. Both teams have a 3-game losing streak and are now looking up at the Rangers, who are first in the division.
Something’s got to give – not just in the standings, but in the pitching matchup.
The Astros start future Hall of Famers Justin Verlander, who is obviously experienced but is struggling with a 1-2 record and 5.19 ERA this month.
The Mariners will start ace Luis Castillo is 8-3 at home this year with a 2.52 ERA. In September, he’s 3-0. That’s the tipping point we were looking for in the battle.
While the Astros could easily cover on the run line, we aren’t taking that as our favorite play from this one. No, we are believers in the M’s on Monday to win on the moneyline.
