All betting odds displayed in American format
UFC 291 best bet: Dustin Poirier (-130)
The main event between Poirier and Gathje is an interesting one. Not only is it for the vacant (and metaphorical) BMF Title but a shot at the lightweight title could be on the line as well. Both guys are coming off of big wins and this is going to be close on paper.
That said, Poirier got the knockout win the first time these two fought and should be able to prevail again. Both are top-tier strikers, so expect a few bombs to be thrown. Look for a late finish from Poirier again.
UFC 291 best bet: Jan Blachowicz (-145)
This isn’t all about going with the favorites but Poirier and Blachowicz make the most sense. The latter is the former light heavyweight champion and is facing a guy who is not only coming off of a knockout loss to Israel Adesanya but making his light heavyweight debut.
Pereira has very good striking and power, so you can’t rule him out. That said, he is debuting against an opponent that is one of the best in his class. If it were against anyone else in the light heavyweight division, Pereira might be the pick. Blachowicz may not get the finish but should walk away as the winner in this bout.
UFC 291 best bet: Paulo Costa (+100)
Costa is making his return to the octagon for the first time in over a year. He is squaring off against Ikram Aliskerov, a rising star, and contender in the middleweight division. Despite the latter having just one fight in the UFC, he is getting a premier bout against a highly-ranked opponent. If he wins this fight, it won’t be long before he is getting a shot at the UFC middleweight title.
Though Aliskerov is coming off a first-round knockout and has a professional record of 14-1, this is the matchup that could trip him up. Costa has had plenty of time to train and study Aliskerov. This should be an event bout and it would not be surprising in the least if Aliskerov walked away the victor. Look for this one to go the distance with the returning Costa getting the win.
