UFC 291 news: Poirier vs. Gaethje 2 headlines exciting card

This is a rematch that many UFC fans have been clamoring for. The two met back in 2018 with Poirier winning the bout via TKO. Poirier is a form interim UFC lightweight champion, last losing a title fight against Charles Oliveira after beating Conor McGregor twice in 2021. In his last fight, he tapped out Michael Chandler.

Gaethje, nicknamed “The Highlight”, also failed in his title bout against Oliveira. Since his loss to the UFC lightweight champion in 2022, he has rebounded by earning a majority decision against Rafael Fiziev back in March 2023.

Though the two have similar histories and are matched evenly on paper, the pros lean toward Poirier winning once again. Current and former champions like Alexander Volkanovski, Islam Makhachev, and Jorge Masvidal have backed Poirier as the victor. Everyone is waiting to see what the result will be at UFC 291 this Saturday.

The BMF Title

In the hype leading up to this fight, one of the most talked about points has been that the BMF title will be on the line. The title, which stands for the “baddest m—–f—–“, is a symbolic title and not one officially recognized by the UFC.

The first unofficial BMF champion was crowned back at UFC 244. At the event, Masvidal beat Nate Diaz to become the recognized BMF Champion. Get ready for all of this exciting action on Saturday when UFC 291 kicks off.
