MLS Power Rankings DFS Pick #1: Brandon Vazquez

FC Cincinnati has been the best team in MLS this season, and it has not even been close. This was solidified last week when they beat Toronto and clinched an MLS Supporters Shield victory.

The Orange and Blue lost midweek to the New York Red Bulls, but we expect them to bounce back against Inter Miami.

The Herons of Miami will almost certainly be without their superstar player Lionel Messi. When Messi doesn’t play, Inter Miami look terrible. There’s a reason they were bottom of the Eastern Conference before the World Cup winner showed up on South Beach.

Without Messi, FC Cincinnati should be able to show their class. Luciano Acosta has been the club’s best player this season, but Brandon Vazquez is the real spiritual leader in Cincy. Both were considered when looking at the best DFS soccer picks today.

The 24-year-old Mexican-American has been with the club throughout their entire rebuild and continues to play a big role in their success today. We think he will have a big performance on the road against Miami and he is top among our best DFS soccer picks today.

MLS Power Rankings DFS Pick #2: Felipe Mora

We are going with another striker for our second DFS soccer pick for this week’s slate of games. The Portland Timbers are one of the hottest teams in North American soccer right now. Under interim manager Miles Joseph, the Timbers have lost just one game.

In that same period, they have racked up victories against sides like LAFC and Real Salt Lake. The Timbers have also managed to get important draws against the Seattle Sounders and LA Galaxy.

These results have propelled the Timbers into playoff contention. A win away at Montreal on Saturday would basically guarantee the Green and Gold a spot in the MLS playoffs. Montreal give up goals for fun, so the Timbers should be able to get a good result on Saturday.

Only Toronto FC and Colorado Rapids have worse goal differentials than Montreal this season, so we expect a high-scoring match. Montreal is near the bottom of all MLS power rankings. And if the Timbers are going to score goals, Felipe Mora is probably going to score one of them, and reward those who entered him in their best DFS soccer picks today.

Since coming back from injury in late August, Mora has scored five goals and has regularly been named team captain for this Portland side. We back Timbers to win this game and for Mora to contribute on the scoresheet.

MLS Power Rankings DFS Pick #3: Denis Bouanga

We move on from the strikers and head out wide for our third DFS pick. If you follow the MLS at all, you may be surprised to see a player like Denis Bouanga so low on our MLS power rankings. After all, he did score a hat trick in LAFC’s last match.

Call us superstitious, but unless you are Lionel Messi, we are hesitant to back a player to have back-to-back dominant performances in MLS. We are especially cautious because LAFC are not playing particularly well right now.

The Black and Gold have won just one of their last five matches across all competitions. These poor results have seen LAFC slide from potential Western Conference champions down to third in the West. A bad result this weekend could see Los Angeles slide even further down the table. If all other results go against them, LAFC could end Matchday 37 in as low as fifth place.

Despite all of this, we like Denis Bouanga as a DFS pick for this weekend’s game. The 28-year-old Gabon international is MLS’s top scorer right now. Even if he isn’t on the scoresheet, Bouanga contributes to LAFC’s offense. In addition to his 17 goals, the winger has also contributed 6 assists.

Bouanga is also second in the league in total shots and regularly sends in crosses from out wide. Shots and crosses are rewarded highly in most DFS soccer competitions, so even if LAFC doesn’t win against Austin, Bouanga should get lots of points.

MLS Power Rankings DFS Pick #4: Ryan Gauld

One of the teams who could leapfrog LAFC this weekend is the Vancouver Whitecaps. Vancouver are on a three-match unbeaten run and have only lost twice in their last nine matches. A key reason for their strong run to close out the season is Ryan Gauld.

The “Scottish Messi,” as he was once called when he first broke through in Scotland, is hitting a good stride of form as the Caps make their final playoff push. Gauld has 11 goals and 12 assists so far this season. The vast majority of those goal contributions have come in the second half of the season as Gauld had 0 goals and 1 assist throughout the Caps’ first ten matches.

Ryan Gauld has been incredible this season and features in our best DFS soccer picks today

The only reason we haven’t put Gauld higher in our MLS power rankings is because the Whitecaps are playing Seattle. As good as Vancouver is, we think Seattle is slightly better. Because of this, Gauld isn’t as likely to score or get an assist as some of the players we have put above him.

The Scotsman should still be able to get you some valuable points though thanks to his good passing numbers, set piece-taking ability, and key role in Vancouver’s offense.

MLS Power Rankings DFS Pick #5: Jesus Ferreira

We finish our MLS power rankings with another forward. We have to admit, this is the least sold of our DFS soccer picks, but we still think it is worth taking a flyer on.

According to the basic stats, FC Dallas’ Jesus Ferreira has taken a step back this year. However, if you look at his advanced number, the 22-year-old USMNT star is performing just as well as he did last season. This leads us to believe it’s his team that has taken a step back. Recently though, his team has stepped up in a big way.

Like many teams right now, FC Dallas are in the middle of a playoff push. The Toros are undefeated in their last six matches. Their next match is against a direct playoff rival in San Jose. Something tells us Ferreira will show up big in this match.

The Earthquakes currently have an unsettled backline that is often rotated between matches. Ferreira’s movement and San Jose’s lack of consistancy could cause the Earthquakes problems. Additionally, Dallas will be playing this match at home.

With Austin right on their heels, we are approaching do-or-die territory for FC Dallas. We think they will get it done, and are willing to bet Jesus Ferreira is involved.
