The 2023 BMW Championship was held at the Olympia Fields North Course, in Olympia Fields, Illinois. The historic midwest course measured at 7,267 yards and proved to challenge some of the competitors while others atop the leaderboard managed to easily break double digits under par. Expect next week to be an even harder challenge for the golfers in the FedEx Championship finale.
BMW Championship Recap
Winner: Viktor Hovland
To put it simply, this the greatest Viktor Hovland has ever played in his entire life. A sheer masterclass of how to play golf in the final round. Seven birdies in the last nine holes (on a Sunday nonetheless) is an unbelievable feat. Let’s see if Viktor can keep the momentum running into the finale.
T-2nd: Scottie Scheffler
Despite coming up just short, Scheffler has no reason to hang his head. Scheffler pieced together four extremely solid rounds and is heating up at just the right time heading into the finale.
T-2nd: Matt Fitzpatrick
Firing off 3 66’s and 67 is a great show of consistency from Fitzpatrick. Just like Scheffler, Fitzpatrick had a phenomenal tournament and will be one of the favorites to win the FedEx Championship.
4th: Rory McIlroy
After an amazing opening round, Rory came right back to Earth with a friday round of 70. Rory then strung together to great rounds to finish off the tournament. Rory is another golfer in a great place for next week and will look to cash the $18,000,000 check awarded to the winner.
Tour Championship Preview
Aside from the majors, this is the biggest tournament in all of golf. The FedEx Championship is held at the prestigious East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, Georgia.
Tour Championship Favorites
Scottie Scheffler (-10)
Scottie is the favorite to win the Tour Championship as he leads the field already at -10 and is one of the hottest golfers on the planet right now. Scottie will definitely be on the leaderboard come Sunday, if not at the top of it.
Viktor Hovland (-8)
Hovland is the hottest golfer on the planet right now and is only starting two back from Scheffler. Hovland has major upside and has proved he can go extremely low and is never out of any tournament.
Rory McIlroy (-7)
McIlroy has been a staple at the top of the PGA Tour for years and for good reason. His consistency makes this tournament extremely winnable and only starting three strokes back will be very helpful for the veteran looking to win back to back Tour Championships.
Jon Rahm (-6)
If you want to be a favorite but don’t like any of the previously mentioned golfers, Jon Rahm is your guy. Rahm has the potential to be the best golfer in the world at any tournament and he will look to add another accolade to his already loaded resume. He won The Masters earlier this year.
Tour Championship Sleeper Picks
Xander Schauffele
Xander might not have the best value of any of the sleepers but he has a significant chance to be in contention on Sunday. Only 7 back from the top, Xander placed 4th last year and is very dangerous at East Lake Golf Club.
Tony Finau
Tony is another veteran player who loves East Lake. He fired off a -6 score last year on Sunday and has the potential to go extremely low. Finau has not been great as of late but if you want to take a flier on someone who has the potential to go low, Tony is your guy.
