After a much needed 3-for-3 day yesterday with our picks, we are staying humble and looking for the same “low-hanging fruit” cashing tickets that we found on Monday for our best MLB bets for August 29th.
After putting together three winning plays – which could have been a nice parlay for some – why should we try something different?
Home runs are nice, but enough singles and you’re in the Hall of Fame. We are trying to be like Tony Gwynn and focus on that average.
So, let’s get back in the batter’s box and offer our best MLB bets for August 29th…
Los Angeles Angels (+135) at Philadelphia Phillies (-155) – 6:40 PM EST
After beating the Angels 6-4 on Monday, the Phillies look to take hold of the series by putting Michael Lorenzen on the mound. He’s been a strong addition to the Philly rotation, though his last two starts against the Giants and Nationals have been his worst outings since June.
However, we aren’t worried about Lorenzen. Even with a poor performance in a previous start against the Angels this season, we expect the Phillies starting pitcher to deliver a quality start and that will be enough for the Philly offense.
The Phillies have some hot bats and some of those bats have a good history against LA’s starting pitcher, Tyler Anderson.
Anderson has a 5.63 ERA on the road, a 7.63 ERA in August, and he’s 0-3 so far this month. Plus, Brycer Harper and Trea Turner both have outstanding numbers against him (look for those two in player props).
All indications are the Phillies continue their winning ways for our best MLB bets for August 29th while the Angels suffer another setback in keeping pace in the AL West and the AL Wild Card.
Best MLB bets for August 29th: Phillies ML (-155)
Atlanta Braves (-270) at Colorado Rockies (+220) – 8:40 PM EST
Stop me if you’ve heard this one before – the Braves are going to beat the Rockies at Coors Field today.
Did we give out that same pick on Monday? Yes! And it cashed!
Why would we doubt that the Braves offense can have a repeat performance today of what they did on Monday for one of our best MLB bets for August 29th? Acuna homered, Riley homered, and it feels like Atlanta has a lot more home runs to go before this series is over.
Rockies starting pitcher Peter Lambert has a 5.19 ERA this month and has allowed 5 home runs! At home this season, Lambert has a 6.61 ERA and 8 homers allowed.
Again – why would we doubt the Braves offense on Tuesday?
The only slight concern about the Braves would be their starter Charlie Morton…oh wait, Morton is 3-1 this month with a 2.01 ERA (lowest of the year so far for the veteran righty).
There is nothing holding us back from making this bet. So, let’s be obvious – grab that low-hanging fruit and put that bet down on the Braves before the odds get even worse.
Best MLB bets for August 29th: Braves ML (-255)
Oakland Athletics (+260) at Seattle Mariners (-320) – 9:40 PM EST
Now time for what has become a regular routine over the past few days – picking the Seattle Mariners to win.
Yes, we are getting rid of the mystery on this one because it is just too obvious for us to pretend there is a question.
The A’s are starting southpaw Ken Waldichuk who is 2-5 with a 7.43 ERA, .303 OBA including 13 home runs allowed on the road this season. If Waldichuk is awful on the road, Mariners starting pitcher George Kirby has been among the best starters at home this season.
Kirby is 6-3 in Seattle with a 2.87 ERA and .214 OBA. In August, Kirby has a 2.60 ERA. And, if you need more information to encourage a Mariners pick – Kirby has a win already this year against the A’s.
Waldichuk against the M’s earlier this season? 16.88 ERA…also known as 5 earned runs over 2.2 innings pitched.
We are riding with the M’s as they continue to shock the AL West, the American League, and the rest of baseball.
